The Lines Almost Cast Off: Onwards to the North!

Dear Friends and Followers,

The moment we have been looking forward to for so long is getting closer: in June we will finally cast off and set sail for the north! After 4 years of preparation and many hours of tinkering, our sailboat is slowly but surely getting ready for the big adventure.
But as is the case with sailboats, there is always something that unexpectedly turns up. For example, we are suddenly faced with a few major works that still need to be done: the genoa furling system and the anchor winch. That means we have to spend an extra month at the shipyard. Not ideal, but it is part of the job. And it gives us some extra time to put the finishing touches on.
Sailing: An Expensive Hobby (But a Fantastic One!)
Let's face it: sailboats are notoriously expensive hobbies. It is sometimes said that "a sailboat is a hole in the water where you throw all your money", and there is some truth to that. I recently said to the yard manager, that anchor winch "That costs me an arm and a leg". To which he replied: "If that's all it is, that new furling system, you'll have to give your head for it."
But despite all the unexpected costs, we do not give up! Because the dream to explore the North with our sailboat is stronger than ever.
And besides, the money's already gone, so we might as well make the most of it!
